James J. Platanitis, 82, of Feeding Hills, Mass., died on January 18, 2024.
He was born in Holyoke, Mass., on July 11, 1941, to Peter and Lydia (Sikorski) Platanitis, and grew up in West Springfield, Mass. James attended West Springfield High School before going to work for the family restaurant, the Hickory Hearth. Notable workplaces included Sikorsky Aircraft, Hamilton Sundstrand, Paysaver and Costco Wholesale, West Springfield. James was a longtime member of the Fraternity of St. Dominic at Dominican Monastery of West Springfield. He was a ham radio operator, enjoyed cars and landscaping, and spending time with family pets.
James is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Furlani) Platanitis, daughter, Sarah Platanitis, and sister, Deborah (Platanitis) Durkee.
All service are private and the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ name can be made to the Dominican Nuns Monastery in West Springfield.
