James "Mike" Roy

West Springfield –James Michael “Mike” Roy, 75, passed away peacefully on January 22 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Mike was born April 29, 1948, to the late Francis and Ellen (Baker) Roy in Fitchburg, MA. Mike attended St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg Massachusetts where he played varsity football for four years and varsity baseball for three years. After high school Mike joined the Navy and was commissioned to a destroyer in the China Sea for two years. After earning his degree Mike worked as an RN in the Springfield Massachusetts area at various hospitals and a nursing home. During this time he lived in Agawam and in West Springfield for the last 20 years. Mike was an avid reader. He read over 300 novels. Some more than once. He had a passion for mountain biking, jogging on the beach and playing the violin. He was also a gourmet cook. All services will be private, and arrangements were entrusted to TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME.
