West Springfield – Jeanette Louise Corey, 98, passed away peacefully on February 22 at Heritage Hall South in Agawam. She was born September 18, 1925 to the late Said and Catherine (Baho) Thomas. She graduated from West Springfield High School in 1943, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Westfield State College in 1963, and her Masters of Education Degree from Westfield State College in 1968. She taught the third and fourth grades at the Mark Twain elementary school, Enfield, CT from 1963 to 1978. The same year, she transferred to the Nathan Hale elementary school, Enfield, CT to teach fourth grade. She remained at Nathan Hale until her retirement in 1991. She had a passion for travel and visited unique locations throughout North America and Europe well into her 90s. A highlight of her day was walking at the Holyoke Mall. She considered the day she renewed her driver’s license at age 95 to be “one of the best days of her life”. She was always interested in learning something new. She found the IPad fascinating and worked at developing a new skill. She was married to Leslie E. Corey who died in 2009. Jeanette was also predeceased by her brother, Richard Thomas, and sisters, Catherine Gauthier, Rosanna Hall, Theresa Norton and Lorraine Loomer. She is survived by her sister, Mary Rita Thomas of Westfield, and nieces, Catherine Hall Adams, Diane Elizabeth Tillman, Donna Hall Adams, and Susan M. Norton; nephew, Michael T. Loomer, and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews. A Graveside Funeral Service is scheduled for March 8 at 10am at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield. All services were entrusted to Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, West Springfield.
