Obituary
Joan “Joanie” (Dickinson) Pavel, 85, of Dorwin Drive passed away peacefully at her home on Monday. She was born in Chicago, IL on February 27,1936 to the late George and Ann Dickinson. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Westfield. She was a communicant of St Thomas Church in West Springfield. Joanie loved traveling, the casinos, and dancing to “MacArthur’s Park" and “Send in the Clowns” to name of few. She also enjoyed playing bridge, doing puzzles, and knitting exquisite afghans, which she passed down to family and many babies born to friends and family over the years. But most of all Joan cherished the time she spent with family.
She was predeceased by her first husband John “Jack” Crean in 1968 and by her second husband Henry “Herb” Pavel in 2017. She was the loving mother of Hugh Crean and his wife Anne, Ann Reynolds and her husband Russel, Norine Crean, Mark Crean, John Crean, Michael Crean and his wife Michelle, and Jennifer Dickinson. Joanie led a fulfilling life and left a lasting legacy as a devoted grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 7. She also leaves several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. The funeral will be Friday at 11:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 12:30 pm Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church. There will be a Committal Service at 2 pm at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
