Obituary
Joan L. (Tovet) Carlon, 87, passed away in Haverhill, MA on May 25, 2022, after a long illness. A long-time resident of Longmeadow, West Springfield, and Northampton, MA, she was born in Springfield, MA to Alma E. and Earl J. Tovet. She was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, Donald C. Carlon. Joan graduated from Springfield Technical High School where she was a member of the T.H.S. Honor Society. She went on to train and receive her Early Childhood teaching certification at the Springfield Day Nursery. She spent a total of 29 years teaching in the early childhood programs at Trinity United Methodist Church and the Jewish Community Center in Springfield, MA. After retiring from teaching, she and a partner started a house cleaning business, Sparkle & Shine, based in West Springfield. When she fully retired, Joan took the opportunity to enjoy her life-long hobbies: baking personalized birthday cakes for her neighbors and painting and drawing gifts for family and friends. Joan leaves her loving daughter, Candyce Carlon of Rochester, NH, nephews Ralph Bell, Jr. of Middlefield, MA, and Kenneth Carlon of Duxbury, MA, nieces, Jacqueline Watson of Westfield, MA, Rosemary Ankiewicz of Belchertown, MA, and Roberta Carlon of Holyoke, MA, as well as many grand nieces and nephews. The burial will be private. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dakin Humane Society ( www.dakinhumane.org/donate.html ).
