Obituary
Joanne McCarthy or “Joellie” as she was known, passed away quietly on Sunday, October 7, 2018. She was the daughter of the late John E and J. Frances McCarthy. A 1969 graduate of West Springfield High School, she received her Masters from A.I.C. Joellie worked as a Social Worker & Special Ed Teacher in Springfield school system for 20 yrs. She started umpiring and refereeing at 16 yrs old until 66 years old for the love of the game. She refereed or umpired 5 different sports. Refereeing was her passion in life as well as her love for animals. Her family includes Chris (Brandy) McCarthy, Trish McCarthy and Colin Twitchell, Janice McCarthy Eustis and David Eustis, Betsy McCarthy and Mike Ferrarini, Keri and Travis Nielsen, Michael and Madelyn Eustis and her grandniece Joan Eustis, and her boyfriend Richard Gagnon. A Memorial Service will be held THURSDAY 12 NOON at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, State St., Spfld. Calling Hours will be held WEDS from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Thomas J. O'Connor, Animal Control & Adoption Center, 627 Cottage St, Springfield, MA 01104.
