John Francis Czach, Jr.

John Francis Czach, Jr., 87, died peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Chicopee, he was the son of the late John F. Czach, Sr. and Anna (Storozuk) Czach. John was a graduate of Chicopee High School, where he played football. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, where he worked for 22 years until his retirement in 1996. John also served proudly in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Westover Air Force Base for many years, settling in West Springfield in 1966. John will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 66 years Joanne (Dejkus) Czach, their children; Claudia M. Czach of West Springfield, John F. Czach, III of Westfield and James J. Czach and his wife Rebecca of West Springfield, cherished grandchildren; Matthew and Lauren Czach, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was also predeceased by his brother and sister at a very young age, and by his daughter Sheila A. Czach. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31st from 5-7 PM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. John’s Funeral will be Friday, September 1st at 9:30 AM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home followed by burial with Military Honors in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Westfield.
