John J. Kasip, 71, passed away January 8, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Born in Holyoke, December 30, 1951, he was a lifelong resident of West Springfield. He was the son of the late William J. and Kathryn A. (Reidy) Kasip. John was a 1970 graduate of West Springfield High School. He was a US Navy veteran and worked at Sears Automotive, International Trucking and the West Springfield DPW. John was a devoted communicant of St. Thomas Church and a proud friend of Bill’s for the last 17 years. He was an avid walker up until the last few years of his life and could be seen out and about West Springfield each day. He leaves his loving sister, Kathleen A. Lyons and her husband James, who he fondly referred to as his Uber driver, his beloved nephew and niece, Michael Lyons of Salem, and Melissa Lyons of West Springfield. He was predeceased by his brother William in 2015. He also leaves two dear friends, Jennifer and Ron, who were very supportive as his illness progressed. Calling hours for John will be Tuesday January 17, 2023, from 9:30-11AM from the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St. West Springfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to follow in St. Thomas Church at 11:30AM. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family would like to thank the D’Amour Center for their care and kindness.
