West Springfield � John Joseph Kolodziej, 83, passed away peacefully Friday surrounded by his loving family. John was born August 6, 1932 in West Springfield, son to the late Jacob and Mary (Guz) Kolodziej. John was a lifelong resident of West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Before retirement in 1997, John worked for the West Springfield DPW for over 37 years. John loved his green Dodge truck and working on his farm, tending to his gardens, while riding his favorite tractor. He enjoyed many trips to the flea market. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Beatrice (Foisey) Kolodziej in 1999. He is survived by his children Robin Szczuka and her husband Walter, Lynn Carr, and Steven Kolodziej all of West Springfield. He was the cherished grandfather to Sarah Coulombe and her husband Robert and David Carr and his fianc�e Kayse Rosati. He was the caring brother to Frank Kolodziej of FL, Ann Przybyla of W. Spfld. and Mary LaBelle of Hamden. He was also predeceased by his brothers William, Andy, Walter, Joseph, Charles, and Stanley. He will be dearly missed by several nieces, nephews and to all who knew him. There will be calling hours Wednesday from 9-11AM at TOOMEY-OBRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield followed by a Funeral Home Service at 11AM. Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee.
