Obituary
John J. Lonergan passed away peacefully at home with family on Wednesday, August 26, 2021.  He was born in Springfield to the late Thomas and Anna (Delaney) Lonergan in 1929, the youngest of 5 children. He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Millie (Tighe) Lonergan, along with three step-children, Ann Bramucci (Angelo) of Windsor, CT, Paul Henderson (Mary) of West Springfield, MA and Scott Henderson (Peg) of Auburn, MA. John was also a loving and wonderful Grandfather to Laura, Caitlin and Mary Bramucci, Scott Henderson, and Adam and Garrett Henderson.  John also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  A special thanks to his nephew Tom Lonergan for all the care and support he has given. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946 and from there served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  John began his working career at Coca Cola and from there went on to work and retire from the U.S. Postal Service. John was an avid sports fan and even played semi-professional football in his younger years for the Springfield Acorns.  John also had a passion for the game of golf, which he passed on to his grandsons. John and Millie had a love for travel and did so throughout their retirement years visiting such places as Ireland, where they met John’s family, Hawaii, cruises, and many other trips.  Wherever they were together, there was sure to be happiness, including their winters spent in Florida with friends.  To all that knew John, you truly knew the man he was; honest, sincere and a man with great dignity and ethics.  John will be greatly missed by all but will now be reunited in Heaven with family and friends. The family wishes to extend many thanks to Hospice of Western & Central Mass for all their care and support. Calling Hours will be on Tues. from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST., WEST SPRINGFIELD followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St., West Springfield. Burial to follow at the St. Thomas Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name can be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, 577 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
