Obituary
John (Jack) Rattelsdorfer, Jr, 46, passed away unexpectedly at Baystate Medical Center on March 12. He leaves behind his loving parents John and Loretta Rattelsdorfer, brother Steven and his wife, Paige. He also leaves his sister, Tracy Laurino, and a nephew, Beckett, in addition to numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was born on May 8, 1973 and grew up in West Springfield. Jack was a 1991 graduate of West Springfield High School where he excelled in track and field. He attended UMass in the pre-veterinary program. Jack was also a member of the MA Army National Guard. He found joy in caring for all animals, especially Rottweilers, and the strays he brought home, much to the chagrin of his mom. He was also passionate about gardening, dedicating numerous hours to his plants and veggies. Jack spent the summers at Groton Long Point, CT, with his friends and grandfather “Pop,” sailing, lobstering, and enjoying the sun. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St, W. Springfield at a later date out of concern regarding the Coronavirus. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to Dakin Humane Society, Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101 or NAMI Western Mass, 324A Springfield St, Agawam, MA 01001 or the charity of one’s choice.
