Obituary
Joseph E. Beatty, passed away on August 15, 2021 after a life well lived.  He was born in Charlestown, NH on 7/1/29.  His parents were Ethel and Joseph Beatty, Sr.  Joseph lived in Huntington for 50 years with the last 40 years in Westfield and Florida.  Joseph was the last active charter member of the Huntington Lion’s Club for 69 years and drove the ambulance for the Hilltowns for over 40 years.  He was also active in Huntington Town Government serving as Moderator for 18 years.  Joseph was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He traveled to 33 different countries and all over Canada and the United States in the “Winnebago”. Joe was a principal in the Heritage Homes of New England organization for over 30 years and did consultation and design work on homes for the last 34 years, designing over 1800 homes.  He volunteered his design expertise for accessibility modifications for churches and homes for Wounded Warriors.   He finally “retired” his drawing board a few months ago. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in Huntington and St. Mary’s Church in Westfield. He leaves his beloved wife of 36 years, Ruth (LaFlamme) Beatty to cherish their years together. He leaves his son Carl and wife Brenda of Ohio, daughter Linda Lafond and her husband Fred of Lady Lake, FL; and daughter Karen Corey and husband Bill and of Belchertown, MA. Joe also leaves his extended family, his step-children; Carol Ann Ruszala of Westfield, Richard Laflamme of Lake Worth Florida, Mary Millette of Amelia Island, Florida, Marie Thompson of Enfield, Ct, Joseph LaFlamme of Springfield, MA and Christopher LaFlamme in Pittsfield, MA. Joe delighted in his grandchildren Brittany, Nicole, Jacqueline, Melissa, Heather, Mary Ellen, Shannon, Jesse, Sean, Lucien, Nicholas, Joseph, Tiffany, and Vanessa. Joe’s extended family were a great joy to him throughout the years with many wonderful memories. He was predeceased by his former wife, Ellen Beatty and siblings Anne Dezotell, Marion Rock and James Beatty, and granddaughter Emma Jean. In addition to the beloved grandchildren, Joseph leaves many nieces and nephews, 8 great grand-children and many friends and former business associates. To honor his memory, donations may be made to a charity that is meaningful to you.  Before he passed, Joe also asked that all of you commit to performing frequent acts of kindness to make the world a better place, demonstrate patience, stay close to God and eat lots of ice cream. A memorial service will be held at a later time, when it is safer for family and friends to travel.  Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of all services.
