He attended local schools, and was a member of the Springfield Trade School class of 1947. He played baseball for Trade, and enjoyed the sport for many years beyond high school. Joe proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, spending much of his deployment in Germany. He was discharged in 1952, and shortly thereafter began his career in the electrical wholesale business. He began at Hampden Electric in Springfield’s South End and eventually opened his own business, Marlin Electrical Equipment, in 1972. In retirement, he relocated to South Carolina, where he enjoyed life playing golf with friends. Joe was woefully predeceased by his wife, Rita (Bourke) Maruca, in 1987. He leaves a son Michael and his wife Melissa of Springfield MA, and a daughter Karen Shea and her husband George of Longmeadow MA. Joe leaves grandchildren Eric and wife Christine of Charlotte, NC and Stephen of Feeding Hills MA. He leaves 3 great grandchildren, Oliver, Noah, and Natalie in NC.
