West Springfield-Kathleen “Kathy” A. McCarthy passed away on May 14. She was 74 years old. Born in Springfield on August 31, 1950, she was the eldest of three children born to Raymond and Mildred (Dillenback) Wolcott. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and attended Westfield State. After getting married to her former husband James in 1973, she lived in Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia before returning to Western Massachusetts in 1994. She retired from the Springfield Public Schools Magnet Program in 2014, after serving as a secretary there for more than a decade. Kathy loved ice hockey and was a Springfield Falcons season ticket holder for many years. She loved German Shephard dogs, and participated in countless dog shows all over the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest. Kathy was predeceased by her sister Joyce in 2001. She will be missed by her loving son Scott McCarthy of Westfield, her brother Gordon and his wife Joanne of Springfield, nephews Nicholas Koenig and Zachary Wolcott, and nieces Jennifer and Caitlyn Wolcott. There will be a Memorial Visitation from 4-6pm on May 21 at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME. A Funeral is scheduled for 9am on May 22 at Christ Church Cathedral, 35 Chestnut St., Springfield followed by Committal at Springfield Cemetery.
