Kathleen (Sears) Shelley, 88, died peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023. She was born in Springfield to the late William J. and Kathleen (Lafferty) Sears. Kathleen graduated from St. Francis Nursing School as a Registered Nurse. She began her career at St. Raphael Hospital and later worked as a charge nurse at several local nursing homes. Formerly of West Springfield, Kathleen was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She is survived by her son John Shelley, Jr., sisters; Patricia Minie, Mary Landry and Anne Sears, brother George Sears and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was also predeceased by her sister Jacqueline Albert. Kathleen’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 AM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Athena Home Health & Hospice and Evergreen Healthcare Center, especially Jean Marie, for their compassion and kindness to Kathleen during her final days. Memorial contributions may be made, in Kathleen’s name, to Athena Home Health and Hospice, 135 South Rd., Suite 2, Farmington, CT 06032.
