Obituary
Laurene “Laurie” Virginia Gutermann, 73, passed away on April 16, 2020 at the JGS Lifecare in Longmeadow, MA. Born in Springfield, MA on May 3, 1946 to the late Virginia Leigner with husband Harold Leigner, and father Harold Wheeler. Laurie graduated from Classical High School and obtained her degree as a Registered Nurse, where she spent her career caring for others with laughter and a smile. A devoted wife to Donald Gutermann, mother of three girls, longtime resident of West Springfield (where she raised her family) and ardent member of the choir at The First Congregational Church. Laurie was both kind and generous, with a love for singing, classic movies (Judy Garland always), and her stand-out auburn hair. She was known for her stories, often pulled from her childhood, and speaking to times where kids would use refrigerator boxes as sleds during the winter. Your biggest cheerleader and most loyal friend, Laurie’s impact on others is lasting. She will be remembered and cherished by her daughters, Holly V. Gutermann of Feeding Hills MA, Heidi M. Barton and husband Brian Barton, her grandchildren Kaitlyn Diefenderfer of San Diego CA, David “Michael” Lindman and Georgia Lindman of Longmeadow, MA, beloved sister Julia Wheeler of Thousand Palms, CA, step sister Beverly Leigner of Sebastopol, CA and her cousin Karen Higa and husband Wayne of Stanwood, WA and predeceased by her daughter Heather Gutermann. May she rest in peace. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
