Lawrence Patrick Murren Sr., 89, of West Springfield, passed away on Friday December 1, 2017. He was born in Boston on March 14, 1928 to Irish immigrant parents, the late Patrick J. Murren and Catherine G. (Walsh) Murren. Larry graduated from St. Mary's High School in Brookline in 1945. He served with the 88th Division of the US Army from 1946-1948, in Northern Italy. Following his time in the service, Larry attended Boston College, graduating with honors in 1952. He was an Internal Revenue Service Agent in Spfld. and Holyoke for 31 years. After retirement from the IRS, he worked as a tax accountant for several years. Larry was a lifetime member of the unity council of the K of C and served the town of West Springfield as a little league coach, town meeting member and a volunteer driver for the senior center. Larry was an avid golfer, and enjoyed his time on the golf course into his late 80's. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and following his "Boston" sports teams. Larry thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, spending many summers with his wife and family in Wellfleet, MA and traveling throughout the US and Ireland. Most importantly, Larry was delighted in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Claire T. (Connors) Murren and his sister Margaret M. Vaccaro. He leaves his children, Lawrence P. Jr. of Brookline, Deborah C. Murren and her husband Dr. K. Gregory Moore, of Batesville, VA, Kathleen M. Murren, of Palo Alto, CA, Patrice A. Curtis and her husband William of Feeding Hills, Michael J. Murren of W. Spfld. and Carolyn M. Bailey and her husband Daniel of W. Spfld.; his grandchildren Michelle Curtis, Jack and Anna Claire Perlmutter, Brendan, Maeve and Kaitlin Bailey and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall West and Heritage Hall North for their care and dedication over the past few months. There will be a Liturgy of Christian Burial Saturday 9 am at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5-8 pm at Toomey-O�Brien Funeral Home in W. Spfld. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Thomas School Development Fund, 75 Pine Street, W. Spfld., MA 01089 or a charity of one's choice.
