Lindsey Jean Asselin, 44, recently passed away unexpectedly at her home. She was the beloved daughter of Bob & Judy Asselin. She grew up in West Springfield and attended St. Thomas School and West Springfield High School where she was an honor roll student and varsity soccer and basketball player. After graduating from WSHS in 1998 she went to the University of Rhode Island and graduated with honors. She also attended the University of South Florida, Idaho State University and the Mountain Heart School of Bodywork. After graduating from URI she took a job as a Wilderness Therapy Instructor in Idaho. She grew to love the area and bought a home in the beautiful Teton Valley. She lived there for 15 years before moving back to Western Mass. Lindsey had a beautiful soul and an adventurous spirit. She loved hiking and traveling. She was proud of completing a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail (Maine to Georgia) using her trail name “I Ching”. She continued to hike short trails in the Tetons and in W. Mass. Her travels took her to India, South America, Central America, Europe, and the American West. Lindsey was very intelligent and loved to read, learn, and do research. She was always surrounded by her books. She was a hard worker and willing to give a helping hand when needed. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends for dinners, holidays, and parties. She loved animals, especially dogs, and had several faithful canine companions over the years. Cooking and trying new foods were another passion of hers, as was biking, skiing, playing cards, enjoying live music, and dancing with friends. She leaves her mother, Judy Asselin of Southwick, a sister, Gina Asselin of Maine, nieces Mya and Caroline, also of Maine, her aunts and uncles, Joanne Conway and Jay Moran of Hingham, Janine and Peter Cassell of Feeding Hills, Linda and Ronnie Mercier of Monson, Sue and Dave Boutin of Hernando, FL, Janet Berube of Holyoke, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Asselin, and by her grandparents, Roger and Claudine Asselin, and Walter and Tusha DeFilippi. Though she faced significant challenges, please remember Lindsey as the kind, fun loving, caring, beautiful soul that she was. Calling hours will be Thursday (3/20) from 5-7 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield.
