Louis R. Lucchesi

d. June 23, 2017

Louis Bob R. Lucchesi, age 82, of Springfield passed away peacefully on June 23. He was born in Springfield on April 5, 1935, to Louis and Mary (Pieroni) Lucchesi. He is survived by the love of his life, Sara E (Lewis) Lucchesi with whom he found special delight and unceasing devotion in their 48-year marriage. Following graduation from Springfield Technical High School, he began working as a union pipefitter, retiring from HG Grodsky & Company after many years of service. He was a longtime member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 104. He also served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Eaton during the Korean Conflict. Forever dedicated to his Italian heritage, Bob was a long-term and active member of the Dante Club in West Springfield where he was known to his many AMICI there as Sweet Lou. One of Bob's cherished accomplishments was the time he spent coaching a Special Olympics Bocci Team. Among his other favorite things was Italian food, especially tortellinis; owning a succession of his favorite car, Crown Vics; and emailing jokes with friends and family. Also left to cherish Bob's memory are his devoted nieces Judi Hunt (and husband, Alan); Laurie Christofori; and Pam Grasso, along with many other nieces and nephews; grandson Jesse Mason and his wife, Jill of North Carolina; granddaughter Lillian Mason of Agawam; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Mason. Bob was predeceased by his three sisters, Doris McNeil, Ida Belanger, and Florence Christofori, along with stepfather Peter DellaMattera. The family wishes to thank the staff and administration at the Jewish Nursing Home and Spectrum Hospice for their unwavering and committed care. Special thanks also go to Bob's wonderful neighbors and friends who surrounded him with love and blessings right up to the end. A calling hour will be held, Thursday, June 29th, 9 10AM at the TOOMEY-OBRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. A celebration of Bob's life will follow at 10 AM, followed immediately by burial at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Patient Activity Fund at JGS Lifecare, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106.
