Obituary
Lucyann (Buoniconti) Lyne passed away at home on February 8, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 76. Born, June 3, 1945, in Springfield MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Maloni) Buoniconti. She was raised in West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School, class of 1963. She leaves her beloved husband of 56 years, Robert Lyne, her beloved children, Andrew and his wife Joanne of Feeding Hills, and their children, Hailey, Evan and McKenzie, Matthew and his wife Kirsten of Holden, and their children, Lauren, Alexa and Sydney, and Diane Kinney and her husband Chris of Bridgeport, WV and their children, Timmy and Sarah, and her beloved sister Christina Gendreau of West Springfield.
Lucy worked as a special education aid for the West Springfield public schools and then as a dental assistant and office manager for 26 years. She cherished friendships of coworkers that carried into her retirement. Lucy volunteered in her kids’ youth sports activities, as an infant cuddler at Baystate NICU, and in many crop and cancer walks. She always made time to enjoy fitness activities over the years including racquetball, exercise class, yoga class, bocce, and walking regularly in the old neighborhood with the Almon Ave. gang. Most recently, she anchored the Pioneer Valley Riverfront Paddling Team-Dragon Rays. When Lucy wasn’t busy with all of her daily activities, she enjoyed spending time with her family especially planning annual beach trips with her grandkids. Lucy loved to cook and bake, and you could never leave her house without food in your hand. While she gained the benefits of exercise and fitness with each of the groups, she mostly looked forward to the conversation and social time with the many people she met. Lucy was able to make friends with just about anyone and would spark up a conversation with anyone willing to chat. The physical strength, mental toughness, and emotional support she gained in these activities helped her in dealing with her cancer. She truly believed “It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.” Lucy made sure the years in her life counted. A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday February 12th at 11:00 AM at Red Oak Church (formerly First Baptist Church) at 337 Piper Road, West Springfield. Visitation & Calling hours with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 9:00 to 11:00. A private burial will be performed by the family at Paucatuck Cemetery in West Springfield in the Spring. Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer House of Hope, 1999 Westfield Street, West Springfield, MA 01089. Special thanks to the Bay State Oncology Department and its Hospice Care team.
