Obituary
West Springfield - Marilyn A. (Kane) Murphy, 77, of Field Street passed away Saturday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Holyoke on Sept. 7th, 1941 to the late Charles and Ethel (Pickup) Kane. She lived her early years in Holyoke and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Marilyn was employed as a Legal Secretary at Robinson Donovan, P.C. in Springfield for over 25 yrs. retiring in 2006. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Church in West Springfield, but prior to that she was a longtime communicant and volunteer at the former Immaculate Conception Church in West Springfield. She was a member and very active in the West Springfield Democratic Town Committee. She would volunteer for countless Democratic campaigns over the years and also volunteered at the polling centers in town during elections. Marilyn was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She had a great love for her hometown and at her passing she truly leaves all of West Springfield.  She was the beloved wife of 58 years to Edward J. Murphy Jr., loving mother of Joan M. Murphy and her partner Ken Reynolds of Enfield, CT and Edward C. Murphy of West Springfield, cherished grandmother of Nicolle Hulse and her partner Christopher Spinks of West Springfield, devoted great grandmother of Jackson Fee of West Springfield, caring sister of the late Eileen Hershowitz, and aunt of many. The calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-6 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. There will be a Funeral Home Service Thursday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451.
