Mark Ian Normand, 71, of San Antonio, TX, (formerly of West Springfield, MA) passed away suddenly on November 26, 2023. Mark was born July 3, 1952, to the late Adjutor and Helen (Rice) Normand, and was a long time resident of West Springfield. In 1969, he enlisted in the US Army, and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. After completing his military service, Mark worked for the West Springfield Forestry Department, Wells Fargo, and Penske Truck Leasing in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He is survived by his loving wife Linda (Pashko) Normand. They met in West Springfield in January 1973, and married the following year. They enjoyed 49 years together raising their family, traveling, and loving nothing more than being by each other’s’ side. He is survived by his children: Kristofor Normand (Autumn), Heather Normand, and Janna McLaughlin (and partner Clifton Nash). Mark was a loving and devoted Papa to Chloe, Liam, Jackson, and Preston. An animal lover, he also leaves behind his loving companions and lap dogs Gabby, Gracie, and Goldie, who brought him joy every day. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Emily Corey, Anne DePalma, Paul Normand, Jon Normand (Pat), Joel Normand (Lorrie), and Jennifer Shoup. Mark was predeceased by his brothers Richard and David, and also leaves his sister-in-law Sandra Normand. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and his lifelong best friend Jimmy Archambault. Mark loved working with his hands, particularly as a car enthusiast. If anything ever needed to be fixed, he loved taking on the challenge. He was the life of the party and always enjoyed being the center of attention. Mark lived like there was no such thing as a stranger, just a friend he hasn’t met yet. Mark had built many memories and strong friendships wherever life took him - home in West Springfield, summers in Maine, and his retirement years in San Antonio. The friendships he built endured for many decades, and for those who recently came into his life - like the Cigar Club - it also felt like a long-lived friendship. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, December 11, from 10 AM - 12 PM at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St, West Springfield. At 12 noon there will be a Funeral Home Service. His Committal Service with full military honors will follow at 1 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mark’s name to the Disabled American Veterans organization, or the Dakin Humane Society. For more information, please visit
