Mary Anne MacKusick, 66, of Whitinsville, MA passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer, peacefully in her sleep at Boston Medical Center, Boston, MA. Mary Anne was born on Christmas Day in 1959 and raised in Westfield. She always spoke about the time spent at Pop Pop’s house on South Boulevard, West Springfield.
Mary Anne was the beloved daughter of the late Marilyn L. Corcoran MacKusick and the late Allen C. MacKusick. She is survived by her cherished Aunt Connie Corcoran and many cousins and friends.
She attended Saint Mary’s High School in Westfield, earned her bachelor’s at Saint Michael’s College and her Nursing degree from Villanova University, and a master’s in nursing from Boston College. Her Nursing Career began at the then Boston City Hospital, eventually joining the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families as a Nurse, where she remained until retirement in 2023. Mary Anne took up residences in Watertown, Dorchester, Chatham and finally at her favorite home in Whitinsville.
Mary Anne had many interests and participated in local community activities. As an avid skier, she travelled the globe to ski and enter events, where she earned some medals along the way. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, giving out her knitted hats and scarves to her friends and family was a favorite thing to do. She remained active in the community and volunteered for many years at the Boston Marathon Start Line. She loved to work on her home and yard; there was always a project or two going on at the same time. She actively followed Villanova Basketball, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, often texting with family and friends during the games and championship celebrations. Mary Anne was very proud of her family! The history and the heritage of the Corcorans and MacKusicks was always a passion of hers. After taking up the baton, along with her mother, the “Annual Corcoran Christmas Party” was held at her home for many years each Christmas Season. She was talking about starting them up again with a Summer Cookout this year. Her family will be forever grateful to all the nurses, doctors and staff that cared for her during the long illness. The medical staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Milford, MA was especially kind to her during her many sessions of care there. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Calling hours are Saturday, February 14th from 10 AM to 11 AM at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home with a Funeral Home Service at 11 AM. Burial will be at Agawam Center Cemetery and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Anne’s name may be made to the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber.
