Obituary
- Mary Elizabeth (Neffinger) McGuire, 72, passed away Sunday at Bear Mountain in West Springfield, Mass. She was born in Springfield, Mass. to the late Norbert and Avis (O’Donnell) Neffinger. She was a real estate broker for over 30 years and owned and operated Century 21 Pioneer Valley Associates, formerly of Northampton. Before that, she was in pharmaceutical sales for several years. She received her BA from Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee and after that she received her Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Mass. College of Pharmacy. Later on she graduated from Western New England University with an MBA. After her schooling she taught Chemistry at Enfield High School and at Cathedral High School for several years. Mary also was an adjunct professor of Real Estate at Greenfield Community College.  She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Northampton and was a member of the Carmelite Religious Order. Mary volunteered her time for years for the Western Mass. Girl Scouts. Mary and her late husband Mike, moved in with Norbert her father, to help care for her eight brothers and sisters after the early death of her mother Avis Neffinger. She enjoyed traveling to her homes in Nova Scotia and Mt. Snow, Vermont and spending time with family and friends there. Mary liked to take car rides, look at houses and make wedding cakes. She was the loving wife of the late Michael P. McGuire (2015), beloved mother of Davyn McGuire and his wife Rebecca White of Southwick, devoted grandmother of Ryder McGuire, caring sister of Joseph Neffinger and his wife Lori of Westfield, Lisa Davis and her husband Jeff of Belchertown, Vincent Neffinger and his wife Doris of Southampton, Gregory Neffinger and his wife Yael of West Springfield, Stephen Neffinger and his wife Janet of Ware, Francis Neffinger and his wife Kathy of West Springfield, and the late Ann Marie Neffinger (2007) and N. Andrew Neffinger (2013). She also leaves many nieces and nephews. The calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-6 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Due of the COVID-19 Crisis, we ask that after visitation with the family, you exit directly to your vehicles. There will be a Funeral Mass Wednesday at 11 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in Mary’s name, to the Northampton Survival Center, 265 Prospect Street, Northampton, MA 01060.
