Mary Helene (O�Donnell) Roberts, 96, of Westwood Drive passed away Saturday at the Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke on March 27th, 1920 to the late Terrence and Mary O�Donnell. She grew up and spent most of her life in West Springfield. She was a graduate of West Springfield High School and later she received her B.A. with Honors from Elms College. Mary was also a graduate of Springfield Civil Service Business School. During WW II she was employed in the Physics Lab of the Springfield Armory. After that Mary was a permanent substitute teacher at the West Springfield High School for 15 years. She also taught English as a second language for 5 yrs. She later received the Friend of Education Award given by the W. Spfld. Education Association. Mary was an active communicant of St. Thomas Church. She was a member of their Senior Club, a member of their Parish Council, and a member and past President of St. Thomas Women�s Club. She was also a member of the Alumni Associations of Elms College and West Springfield High School. Mary was member of the W.S. Soccer Association and a member and past President of the W. Spfld. High School Soccer Moms. She also volunteered at the Open Pantry, the Commonwealth of Literacy Corp. and the E.S.L. Program at STCC. She was the beloved widow of Harvey Roberts who passed away in 2000, loving mother of John of West Springfield, Terrence and his wife Kathy of Ocala, FL, Harvey and his wife Lynn of E. Greenwich, RI, Christopher and his wife Mary of Torrington, CT, Daniel of West Springfield, and Barry and his fianc� Kathy Keeney of Westfield, devoted grandmother of Terri-Ann, Kevin, Ryan, David, Rebecca, Kristen, Kelli, Katie, Jonathan, Haley, Matthew, Brooke, and Jack. She was predeceased by her brother John O�Donnell and her sister Avis Neffinger. Mary leaves many nieces, nephews, and in-laws from the O�Donnell, Neffinger, and Roberts families. She also leaves many cherished friends, especially the neighbors on Westwood Drive and her dear friend Kay Pinkerman. There will be calling hours Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the TOOMEY-O�BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Spfld. There will be a Funeral Mass Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Burial will follow at the St. Thomas Cemetery.
