West Springfield- Michael John Atkin, 72, of Sean Louis Circle passed away Wednesday in Brooksville, FL. He was born in Albany, NY on May 18th, 1944 to the late Alfred and Mary (Aufsesser) Atkin. He was raised in Albany and has lived in West Springfield for the last 36 yrs. Mike served as an Army Medic in a MASH unit in the Vietnam War. He spent many years in sales at AT&T and then moved over to Winstar Communications as a Director of Sales. He retired in 1997. Mike received his BA in History from American International College. He volunteered his time at the Majestic Theatre in West Springfield where he ran their largest fundraiser, the Corvette Raffle, for the past 18 years. He also served as President of both the Albany, NY and West Springfield Lions Club and was a lifelong member. He was also a member of the Dante Club in West Springfield and an avid University of Kentucky, N.Y. Giants, and Yankees fan. Mike also coached and served as a board member for multiple sports in town. Most recently he loved spending the winter months in the community of Timber Pines in Springhill, FL. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Judith M. (Taylor) Atkin, loving father of Jeffrey Atkin and his wife Kaitlin of Wake Forest, NC, Marc Atkin and his wife Amy of Wilbraham, Christopher Atkin and his wife Jennifer of Springfield, and Kevin �Boo� Atkin and his wife Jill of West Springfield, caring brother of Thomas Atkin of CA and Alfred Atkin Jr. of Albany, devoted grandfather of Evan, Chase, Ryan, Kyle, Emerson, Connor, Peyton, and Hazel Atkin. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Home Service Wednesday at 11 AM at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
