West Springfield, Nelson “Jim” Grundy, 76, passed away August 7, 2024. Born in Springfield, March 19, 1948, he was the son of the late Nelson Grundy and Adeline (Phaneuf) Witt. Jim worked for J. R. Sweeping Service, Reds Towing, Roy’s Towing and Clarks Gulf. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Michele (Schwartz) Grundy. He leaves his beloved daughter, Melissa, his beloved sisters, Annette Szydlo and her husband, Steven Szydlo, Holley Lavender, Gladys Savoire, and his beloved close friend Bridget Burris and her husband Gary and his beloved cats, Buddy. Jim was a kind, generous and loving man with a passion for classic car shows, NASCAR and his absolute favorite event of the year – the Big E! He was the recipient of The Towman Commendation presented by the American Towman Magazine and Emergency Road Service, Inc. in 1997 for Courageous Professionalism in the Endeavor to Save a Human Life. Jim will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him. Calling hours will be Wednesday August 14, 2024, from 5-7pm at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield.
