Patrick O'Connor

November 30, 1929 — June 21, 2025

Patrick O’Connor passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Patrick was born to Michael and Ellen (Sullivan) O’Connor in Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry Ireland. He is predeceased by his siblings Margaret, Michael, Catherine, Eileen, John, Bridie and David. Patrick worked as a tailor in Dublin, producing beautifully crafted garments for twenty years before emigrating to the United States in 1971. Patrick worked at Eaton’s Men’s Clothing for 17 years, and then for Cohoes for 10 years in addition to personally providing his expert tailoring services to many friends and clients. He was a true craftsman. Patrick cherished the life he shared with his wife Sheila (O’Sullivan) of Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland of 31 years before her passing in 2010. Patrick and Sheila met at the John Boyle O’Reilly Club where he was a lifetime member; enjoying social events, watching Irish football matches and spending time with friends over a pint of Guinness. Pat enjoyed traveling including his many trips home to Ireland with Sheila. Patrick was an Irish football player in his day, and was very proud to have played a match in Croke Park, Dublin. Patrick was very proud of his Irish heritage, loved listening to Irish music, he was a great storyteller, and a funny man, always ready with a joke and often laughing his way through the punchline. Patrick is survived by sister in law Kitty Murphy, her brothers Patrick and wife Alice O’Sullivan, and Neil and wife Mary O’Sullivan, all of Ireland, and Darlyne O’Sullivan of Westfield. Patrick also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews of the US, Ireland, England and Australia. He also leaves good friends Patrick Brosnan, Michael and wife Hannah Brosnan, and Maura and Pat Ruane, along with other cherished friendships made throughout the years. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 5-7pm at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, MA. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 27 at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA. Patrick’s family will be taking him home to Ireland for burial.
