West Springfield, Paul V Gilbert, 73, passed away January 1, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford, March 1, 1952, he was the son of the late Raymond and Clara (Boucher) Gilbert. Paul graduated from Buckley HS in Hartford Connecticut and Johnson and Wales College for Accounting, where he had a much-earned scholarship for golf. Paul worked as an auditor for various hospitals and retail businesses in the area for many years. He was avid sports fan and golfer, playing at Cedar Knob in CT. His favorite pastime was routing for his favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox, Patriots, and UCONN Basketball, both men and women. He still had a soft spot for the New York Giants, whom he favored during his childhood years. During his retirement, he took up cooking for the family, providing delicious dinners and always looking for more recipes to add to his growing list of delicious treats. He leaves his loving wife of 49 years, Karen (Garay) Gilbert, his beloved children, Stacy Booth, and her husband Mark of Middleboro and Katharine Gilbert of West Springfield, his adored grandson, Alexander, his beloved siblings, Gene Gilbert and his wife, Carolyn, Marion Lattarula and her husband Michael, Barbara Thompson, Cyndi Reeves, Carol Dykas and her husband, Andy, and Michael Gilbert.
He also leaves his adored cat, Solly, who would bring him joy with her silly antics and love. He was predeceased by his much-loved brother and sister, David Gilbert and Joni Emshoff. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and aides at Mont Marie Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, and at Baystate Medical Center
for the loving care they gave to Paul during his many stays for his illness. All services are private. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
