Peter J. Asta-Ferrero, 87, died peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Rockland, ME to the late Pasquale and Merle (Winslow) Asta-Ferrero, he was a lifelong West Springfield resident. He served his country proudly in the National Guard as a field medic. He graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1959 and worked as a pharmacist at Baystate Medical Center for 31 years until his retirement. After retirement, he continued to work at Cooley Dickinson Hospital until 2005. During his career he also worked part time at Mercy Hospital and Merrick Drug Store. Peter was a faithful communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield and was a member of the Western MA Pharmacy Assn. for many years. A loyal New England sports fan, Peter enjoyed gardening and long walks, listening to classical music in his rocking chair, eating lobster while travelling in Maine and frequent trips to Mohegan Sun. Peter’s sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Waneta (Butler) Asta-Fererro in 2017. He is survived by his children; Peter Asta-Ferrero, his devoted daughters; Katherine Allen and her husband Paul, Tina Marie Hale and her husband Jerry, Karen Ravosa and her husband Robert and Joanna Knowlton and her husband Freeman, brothers; Patrick Asta-Ferrero (Karen) and Frederick Asta-Ferrero (Maryanne), five beloved grandchildren; Sarah (Brendan), Jason, Alicia, Robert, Jr. and Liam and five cherished great grandchildren; Andre, Christopher, Mia, Rowan and Kieran. Peter was also predeceased by his brothers; Ronald, Dennis and Stephen Asta-Ferrero. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Quaboag Nursing Home, especially Alisha, Shannon, Jonathan, Karen, Jessica, Genie, Hayley, Kelly, Mike, Kimberly, Wendy, Fallon, Jade, Liz and Deb for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 7 PM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Family and friends may meet for Peter’s Funeral Mass on Thursday, June 29th at 11 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St., West Springfield followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
