Philip Alan Gould was born at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 30,1943 in Springfield, MA to Maxine (Hardy) and Donald Gould. He grew up and attended Agawam schools before completing his Masters Degree at Springfield College in 1966. Philip then served our country in the U.S. Army from July 31, 1967, until July 1, 1973. Upon his discharge, he resided in East Longmeadow and secured a job with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employment and Training Office, a career that he truly enjoyed and in which he met many friends that lasted his entire lifetime. Now, this may not seem remarkable to some - - but this was one amazing individual. He spent much time with his family, a constant and steady son, brother, uncle and friend to those around him. Our family counted on him as he was always there with a smile and such a wonderful sense of humor. After the passing of his father, Philip took his place as the strong and steady head of the household. His sweet and caring disposition made him everyone’s favorite wherever he went, and when he finally made the decision to sell his home and move to Armbrook Village in Westfield rather than live alone, he made a whole bunch of new friends, fellow residents and workers alike. No one could resist his genuine charm and light-hearted manner. He was always a gentleman and always smiling - he will be missed by one and all - his good friend and buddy Josephine, longtime work friends John and Dave, as well as his loving and doting family …. too numerous to mention. Our sadness is only lessened by our knowledge that he is now free of pain and home with so many other loved ones that have gone before him, he is now safe in the arms of Our Lord. We are all so very grateful for the loving care that he received, especially these past two months, from the staff at Armbrook Village, Baystate Hospice, and the 24-hour care and friendship that he received by Angela’s Healing Hands. He was never alone, carefully kept cozy and comfortable, and always loved. Thank you all. We can take comfort in the knowledge that our Uncle Phil is having one heck of a reunion. A Funeral Home Service will be Saturday January 31, 2026, at 11AM at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield with burial to follow in Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. A Calling hour will be prior to the service from 10-11AM.
