Philip Arthur Nelson, 82, of Forris Street passed away Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston on March 31, 1943, to the late Doris (Eckert) and George Nelson. He spent his youth in Boston and has lived in West Springfield since 1950. He graduated from West Springfield High in 1961. His profession was as an Analytical Chemist for Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT where he worked for over 30 years. He was a longtime member of Shaker Farms Country Club and an avid golfer. He was a season ticket holder for the New England Patriots where he enjoyed going with his son. Philip also enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking. In his retirement he also kept busy traveling with his daughter. and playing cards at the Senior center. During his retirement, Phil graduated with honors from HCC with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2020.
Philip was predeceased by his wife Cheryl (Rosso) Nelson in 2022. He was the beloved father of Mathew Nelson and his wife Megan Eischen of Wilbraham and Lori Nelson of West Springfield, loving grandfather of Kyle and Emma Nelson, and caring brother of the late Donald Nelson (2016). The Calling Hours will be Monday from 12-1 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. The Funeral Home Service will follow the wake at 1 pm.
