Obituary
Raymond Stuart LaBorde Sr., 83, of Adrian Avenue passed away Monday at home. He was born in Springfield on September 12th, 1935 to the late Frank and Pauline (Varley) LaBorde. He grew up in Springfield and was a 1954 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1955 – 1957 and after that he served in the U.S. Army Reserves for four years. He settled in West Springfield in 1960 and spent the rest of his life there. Raymond worked for Northeast Utilities for 40 years and retired in 1993 as the Chief Maintenance Officer for the East Springfield facility. Raymond was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Springfield, he served as a local Boy Scout Leader, and he was also a Lieutenant in the West Springfield Special Police Force. He was a devoted and active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he served as Past Grand Master, Past Grand Patriarch and Past Department Commander. He was an avid hunter and belonged to the Springfield Revolver Club and he frequently participated in Marksmanship competitions. He was an instructor on firearms and first aid. He was also very committed to the American Red Cross Apheresis Organization and he contributed over 400 blood donations over the years. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Pauline E. (Bradway) LaBorde, loving father of Linda L. Gauthier and her husband Roger of South Hadley, Raymond S. LaBorde Jr. and his wife Mary of Agawam, and predeceased by son George LaBorde, caring brother of Barbara Albertson of Springfield, Marjorie Albertson of Wilbraham, Warren LaBorde of Columbia, SC, and Richard LaBorde of East Longmeadow, devoted grandfather of Cassie Duchesne and her husband Ryan, Brian LaBorde, and Michael LaBorde and his wife Amber, and cherished great grandfather of Luke, Charlotte, Skylar, and Lilana. He leaves many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Beacon Hospice, especially Cheryl and Samantha. The calling hours will be Friday from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Spfld., followed by a Funeral Home Service at 12:30 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
