Richard Barnaby, 80, of
Placida, FL, passed away on
Dec 9th surrounded by his
loving family. Born in Holyoke
to the late Spencer and Thelma
(Beauchamp) Barnaby, he is
predeceased by his first wife
Janet (Burke) and his sister
Judith Sherman. Rich was a
1962 graduate of HHS.
Rich was a Master
Mechanic, welder and crane
operator for Morrison
Knudsen at Electric Boat in
CT and retired from Daniel
O’Connell and Son’s where he
managed the maintenance of
heavy equipment and worked
on projects like “The Big Dig”
in Boston and the Memorial
Bridge in Springfield. He took
great pride in his work and was
a mentor to many. Rich served
10 years as an Executive Board
member of the I.U.O.E. Local
98. He was respected among
his co-workers and will be
remembered as a good friend
to all.
Rich enjoyed coaching his
son’s Easthampton Hockey
team, his 61’ Corvette, golfing,
creating beautiful wrought iron
pieces and weekend Harley
trips. He was also a Grand
Master of the Ionic Lodge of
Mason’s, Easthampton.
He leaves his loving wife
of 24 years, Carole (Premont)
Barnaby, daughter Kimberly
Murphy (Michael), Son Mark
(Tracey & grandchildren Max
and Ruby), niece Michelle
Mulligan (John, Katie and
Annie), Carole’s children,
Joseph Premont (Kirsten),
Karen Maratea, Richard
Premont (Jill), Sherri Kaubris
along with 8 step grandchildren
and one step great grandchild.
Calling hours are Weds,
Jan 4th, 4-7pm at ToomeyO’Brien Funeral Home, 1043
Westfield St. W. Springfield.
Funeral Services are Jan 5th,
9:00 am at the funeral home,
followed by a 10am Mass at
St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine
St. W. Springfield and burial at
St. Rose Cemetery, S. Hadley.
