Obituary
Richard “Dick” J. Cote, 85, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018. He was born in Springfield, MA on April 8, 1933 to the late Ambrose and Katherine (Van Keuren) Cote. Dick grew up in West Springfield, went to St. Thomas School and graduated from West Springfield High School and Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in printing. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War in Psychological Warfare. After the service, he worked for the family business, Cote Press. Dick later obtained his masters electrical license. He worked with the local electrical union and was the assistant plant manager for the Springfield Hall of Justice for 18 years. Through the years he had a passion for water and snow skiing and waterskied at Cypress Gardens in Florida. Dick loved anything to do with antique cars and machinery. He was gifted with extraordinary mechanical abilities. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Church and the former Immaculate Conception Church and served on both parish councils. Dick was also a member of the Elks Lodge both here and in Florida where he spent the winter months. He was a loving husband to Diane (Newman) Cote, beloved father to Mark R. Cote and his wife Karen of W. Spfld, and Brian P. Cote and his wife Dr. Karen of Solana Beach, CA. Dick was a devoted grandfather to Ryan, Maeve, Patrick, Aidan, Norah and Nathan. He also leaves his sister Dr. Mary Louise Cote of Philadelphia along with several nieces and nephews. Dick was also predeceased by his brother Robert Cote. Funeral Services will be held MONDAY 9 AM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST., followed by a 10 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St., W. Spfld. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held SUNDAY from 2 to 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 34 Chapin Terrace, Spfld, MA 01107
