Richard E. Johnson

Richard E. Johnson, 84, passed away November 3, 2017. He was born in New Haven, CT to the late Aina (Losnes) and Eric Johnson. He grew up in Springfield, graduating from Classical High School in 1951 and lived in West Springfield most of his life. Dick proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. After discharge from the Corp., he worked as a letter carrier in the Springfield Post Office retiring after 37 years of Federal service. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed sharing his passion with his friends and family. Dick leaves his wife Joan (Crowley) Johnson, his children, Fr. Michael Johnson, O.F.M. of Boston and Timothy Johnson and his wife Florence of Ludlow, his grandchildren, Matthew, Kevin and David Johnson, Robert, Joshuah, Zachary and Rachael Coxwell, his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Madelyn, Samuel and Melody Coxwell. He was the brother of Raymond Johnson of Westfield, Philip Johnson of Salem and Karin Johnson of Chicopee. He was predeceased by his daughter, Gina M. Coxwell in 2005. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Baystate Hospice who so lovingly cared for Richard during his illness.�Visiting hours will be Sunday, November 12th 4-7 PM at Toomey-O�Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Monday at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Springfield. Committal will follow in MA Veteran�s Cemetery, Agawam at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 387 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01104 or to Baystate Hospice, c/o Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., 6th Fl., Springfield, MA 01199.
