Obituary
Richard F. Parent, 73, passed away peacefully January 19, 2021. Born in Springfield, February 9, 1947, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Claire (Lamoureux) Parent. Richard was an Army veteran who served in Ethiopia during the Vietnam War. He worked as a foreman for the Town of West Springfield Department of Public Works for many years until his retirement.  Outside of work he was an avid Yankees fan; enjoyed fishing; “tinkering” at his workbench; and playing with his cherished dogs. He was never without his sense of humor, or candy in his pocket to share. Richard leaves his beloved wife of 49 years, Catherine (Veremey) Parent, his loving children, Kimberly A. Parent of Enfield, CT and James R. Parent of Feeding Hills.  He also leaves behind his dear siblings, Carolyn Parent, Suzanne Desaulniers, Edward Parent, John Parent, Christopher Parent, Laura Parent-Dorsey, Lorraine Leger, and Jeffrey Parent. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Berard. Richard also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  Public calling hours will be held at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, MA on Thursday, January 28th from 5-7 pm. Funeral services, including burial at the MA Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, will be private. The family requests the wearing of masks at all services and adherence to social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations in Richard’s name be made to either the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or VA Central Western Mass, 421 N.
