Richard “Dick” Francis Turnbull, 86, passed away at home on September 13, 2020, surround by his loving family. He was predeceased by his daughter Lynn Marie and his parents Francis and Cora. Dick leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years Jane (Cleary), his children, Kathleen (Greany) of West Springfield, Kenneth and his wife Judy of Palatka, FL, and Mark and his wife Sue of Springfield. He also leaves behind his brother Gerald of Los Angeles, CA, his beloved sister-in-law Marie Howe of Chicopee, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Dick was a US Army veteran and owned his own business, Valley Janitorial for many years.
He and Jane raised three children who surrounded Dick with love and laughter throughout his life and in his final moments. Dick was an avid outdoorsman. He loved his garden, and kept a tally of his cucumbers, tomatoes, and zucchini each year. Dick also planted towering sunflowers to the delight of his great grandchildren. He and his beloved wife Jane spent many summers at Camp Overflow in Otis, fishing and hosting friends, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed cruises, watching NASCAR, Publishers Clearing House magazines, casinos and Florida.
Above all else Dick was strong, and stubborn, and his resoluteness helped his family weather every storm that came to pass over the years. A Graveside Service was held privately for the family in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Cancer House of Hope, 1999 Westfield St., W. Spfld, MA 01089. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
