Obituary
Robert R. Asselin, 66, passed away Wednesday at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was also known as Bobby, Cappy and Captain Bob. He was born in Springfield to the late Armand and Claudine (Bolduc) Asselin. Bob graduated from West Springfield High School in 1973 and lived in West Springfield for 50 years before moving to Southwick. Bob was a hard worker but also liked to have fun. He loved including his family and friends in his creative adventures. He loved life and making friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed boating, golfing, fishing, skiing, going to the fireworks, playing cards, telling jokes and performing magic tricks. Boats, trains, planes and automobiles always kept Bob in motion. Bob worked at Penn Central Railroad, Conrail and retired from Amtrak as a locomotive engineer in 2016. Bob was co-owner of G & L Tool in Agawam and the 4 Mile River Marina in Old Lyme, CT. The marina was one of his favorite places to be. Bob was a force of energy and a generous and fun friend. He was a loving husband, father and doting grandfather. Bob leaves his wife of 42 years, the love of his life, Judy (DeFilippi), and his much-loved daughters Lindsey Asselin of Idaho and Gina Asselin Bolk and her husband Mike and his two cherished granddaughters, Mya and Caroline of Raymond, Maine. He also leaves his 3 loving sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Ron Mercier of Monson, Sue and Dave Boutin of Florida, and Janet Berube and “Cliff” of Holyoke, his father- in-law Walter DeFilippi and his sisters-in-law Joanne (DeFilippi) Conway and Jay Moran of Hingham and Janine (DeFilippi) Cassell and Peter Cassell of Agawam and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Tusha DeFilippi and his brother-in-law, Paul Berube. There will be calling hours on Sunday from 2 – 5 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, MA. There will be Celebration of Life on Monday 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
