Robert J. DeGeorge, 87, of West Springfield, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Bob was the beloved husband of Carroll (Stevens) DeGeorge who predeceased him in 2010 after 48 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Robert Jr. of Westfield and David and his wife, Sue of Monroe, CT. He was the proud grandfather and cherished “Grampy” of Alex, Katie and Ellie. Bob was born to Silvio and Amelia (Ferranti) DeGeorge and was predeceased by his siblings Joseph DeGeorge (Dolores), Yolanda (Art) Daigneau, Theresa Malon, Barbara D'Augustino, Beverly (Don) Poggi, and Marlene (Charlie) Grasso. Bob also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bob was raised in Agawam. A standout athlete in both track and football, he graduated from Agawam High School before proudly serving in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Florida. After his service, Bob settled in West Springfield, where he began a family with his loving wife, Carroll. He later pursued higher education, earning a business degree from Western New England College. A devoted member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Bob served for many years as an usher, contributing to his community with a quiet dedication. Bob’s professional career began at the Premoid Paper Company, where his leadership skills led him to become the Resident Plant Manager. Throughout his career, he mentored many and forged lifelong friendships. He retired in 2000 after the company became Rexam, having made a lasting impact on both the company and those who worked with him. A man with many hobbies - hunting, fishing and gambling - he developed a love for sharing a good bottle of wine with friends. He stayed young at heart through his love of golf, all Boston sports teams and daily visits to the gym. He was a gracious host and an exceptional cook, often entertaining family and friends in his home. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling the world with his companion, Harriet Labuz. Bob's legacy is one of love, dedication, and friendship. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially for his stories, competitive nature and endearing stubbornness which always kept him true to himself.
