Robert A. Budri,101, of West Springfield, MA died April 15, 2023, in his home in the company of his loving family. He was born October 20, 1921 in Springfield, MA to the late Angelo and Rose Budri. Robert was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Dorothy A. (O'Malley) Budri, his sister Eunice J. Martone and his brother Robert A. He was educated in the Springfield school system and graduated from Technical High School Class of 1939. Robert was employed at the Springfield Armory for two years, then with New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and Verizon for 39 years where he worked as a cable splicer, then as a Right of Way Agent. He was a member of the 5 Gallon Club donating blood to the Red Cross while employed. Robert served in the US Army during WWII from 1942 to 1945 as a replacement infantryman with the 9th Infantry Division. He also served with the 977 Corp. Artillery and the Medical Corp. in Leeds, MA. Robert was awarded the Infantry Mans Rifle Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Battle Stars, Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was wounded in the battle of Saint- Lô, France and saw action in Tunisia, Normandy and the Rhineland. Robert was active up to the last weeks before his death. He enjoyed working in his yard, keeping up with the news, visiting a casino and watching sports especially Notre Dame and New York teams and stopping at the Donut Dip for a snack and chat with staff. Robert especially enjoyed time spent with his family and his beloved cat Tiger. He was always interested in what others were doing, offering encouragement and help. Robert will be greatly missed by his daughter, Eileen Budri, of Newton, MA and her partner, John A. Boyd, two sons, Michael J. Budri and his wife Patricia of West Springfield, and Robert F. Budri and his wife Diane of Westfield, MA. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Anthony and his wife Kim and their children Emilie and Luca, Catherine Budri, Stephanie Duggan and her husband Sean and their son Zachary, Timothy and his wife Jessica and their children Declan, Trenton and Brody, Kristina Budri and Michelle Budri and her fiancé, Robert Remmes. He appreciated his good neighbors and Tony and Gino at the Barber Shop in Agawam, the staff of the Donut Dip in West Springfield, and friends Zeke Galica and Margaret Rowland. The family wishes to thank the staff at Caring Solutions and also Sue, and the staff at Baystate Hospice Service for their care. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield, MA. Religion figured prominently in his life. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church at 11:00AM with burial to follow at Saint Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Thomas School Development Fund, 75 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.
