Obituary
Robert “Bob” Raymond DeForge, 95, of Clematis Road passed away Thursday at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. He was born in Agawam on August 8, 1924 to the late Jasper and Catherine (Connor) DeForge. He was a graduate of Agawam High School and lived there his entire life. Bob worked at the Agawam Post Office for 42 years and retired as Postmaster in 1982. He also founded and was owner of the Agawam News (now the Agawam Advertiser). He was a WW II U. S. Navy Veteran. He served in the Asia/Pacific Theatre and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Bob was a member of VFW Post 872 in Southwick, American Legion Post 185 in Feeding Hills. He was a longtime communicant of St. John’s Church in Agawam and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was the loving husband of the late Helen C. (Psholka) DeForge who passed away in 2016, beloved father of Beth DeForge of Agawam, cherished uncle of Pamela Jones, Philip    DeForge Jr., Diane DeForge, Kevin and Mary Quick, Kathleen and Jim Kelly, and Mark and Maggie DeForge who were Bob’s caregivers for the last several years. He also leaves his great nieces, Kerry and Mary Kate DeForge and Mary Grimaldi who served as Bob’s private daily chauffeurs to the Bradley Teletheater. He also leaves his brother-in-law Ted Quick. Bob was predeceased by his siblings; Leo, Philip, and John DeForge, Alice Quick, and Barbara DeForge, his nephew Michael DeForge and niece Vicki DeForge.  The family would like to extend their gratitude to both Heritage Hall and the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home for the wonderful care they gave Bob over the last several months. There will be calling hours from 11:00 AM – 12 Noon Tuesday at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. At the conclusion of the visitation there will be a Funeral Home Service at 12 Noon followed by a Committal Service at 1 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to the Beacon Hospice, 815 Worcester Street, Springfield, MA 01151.
