Obituary
Robert Bruce Torkington, 85. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer Bruce passed away with his loving family by his side. He was born Feb 21, 1937 to the late Charles and Hilti Torkington and proudly served in the US Army. Bruce was a master of many talents, especially anything mechanical. He retired from Holyoke Machine Co., after 43 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was able to fix almost anything and especially loved to tinker with clocks. Bruce was an avid gardener with an admirable green thumb. Anyone visiting their home in West Springfield would marvel at the beauty of their yard which he worked tirelessly in from dawn to dusk, for it was his passion. He left behind his adored wife of 65 years, Ann, his three daughters; Sylvia Snopek and her fiancé David Koske of W. Spfld, Patricia Gabinetti of Enfield, CT, and Cynthia Champiney and her husband Gerald “the son Bruce never had” of Southwick. He also left a loving legacy of four granddaughters and eight great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Bruce was also predeceased by his sister Geraldine Harhigh and brother Brian Torkington. A Memorial Service will be held THURS 9 AM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUENRAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST, W. SPFLD. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. A Calling Hour will be held THURS from 8 to 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the charity of one’s choice. Before Bruce departed this world he reminded his family “It’s All Good”, with a smile.
