Robert R. Vetal

West Springfield � Robert R. Vetal, 78, a resident of West Springfield, passed away Friday at Baystate Medical Center. Robert was born September 24, 1937 in West Springfield to the late Francis and Edith Vetal. Robert served as a Springfield Police Officer for over 22 years and after retirement worked in Security and Parking at Baystate Medical Center until 2000. He was an avid Red Sox and UMASS Basketball fan. He loved to travel to Vermont and going to the beach in Florida and Maine. He enjoyed working at the Space Coast Stadium in Florida, where they lived for four years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield and belonged to the Retired Police Association. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen (Sullivan) Vetal, his children Robert Vetal Jr of Oxford, MA, Dana Madera and her husband Paul of Ludlow, and Lance Mills of Fairlee, VT. He was the cherished grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was the caring brother to Frances �Chickie� Bousquet of Ludlow and Donald Vetal of New Hartford, NY. He was predeceased by his son Kevin Mills, daughter Christi Mills and his brother Thomas Vetal. He will be missed by his mother-in-law Betty Foley, brothers and sisters-in-law Pattie, Ann, Bill, Mike and their familes, his friend and former wife Martha Vetal, and his faithful canine companion Auggie. The funeral for Robert will be Wednesday at 9AM at TOOMEY-O�BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA. Burial to follow at the St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
