West Springfield- Rodney John Melbourne, 81, passed away Wednesday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Springfield and lived there in his early years before settling in West Springfield in 1974. He worked as a custodian in the West Springfield Schools. He spent most of his 23 year employment at Fausey School and he retired in 1988. After that he worked at Custom Fabrication in Bloomfield, CT. Rodney was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan and he was a member of the West Springfield Senior Center. He was the loving husband of 50 years to Yvette M. (Henry) Melbourne and he was previously married to the late Arlene (Lassard). He the beloved father of the late Steven B. Melbourne (2010), Jeffrey A. Melbourne of Palmer, and Mark A. Melbourne of West Springfield, caring brother of William C. Melbourne of Agawam, Allen D. Melbourne of Ellington, CT and Ruth Blanch of Agawam. He was predeceased by his brother Sidney Melbourne and his sister Emma Bristol. He was the devoted grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of many. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Home Service Saturday at 4 PM at the TOOMEY-O�BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are prior to the service Saturday from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in Rodney�s name may be made to the Salvation Army, 170 Pearl Street, Springfield, MA 01101.
