West Springfield-Ronald "Rusty" Hakenson, 64, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016. Born in Berlin Germany, May 26, 1952, he was the son of Renate (Roitzsch) Hakenson and the late Charles Hakenson. Rusty graduated from Chicopee Comp. High School and Yuba City College in California. He worked as an accountant for the New England Farm Workers Council for many years. He was a US Army veteran during the Vietnam Era and a member of the West Springfield Veterans Council. Rusty was a dedicated Minnesota sports fan and Nascar enthusiast. He leaves his beloved wife, Suzanne (Lover) Hakenson and his daughter Kristen Gawle and her husband, Ryan as well as his much awaited granddaughter due in March and his loving mother-in-law, Pat Lover all of West Springfield. He also leaves his loving sisters, Sharon Sheehan and her husband John of Wheatland, CA and Debbie LaValley and her husband John of West Springfield. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Dr.'s and staff at the D'Amour Center for Cancer Care for the compassion and excellent care Rusty received as well as our "brother" John (Jack) LaValley whose help and support will be forever appreciated. A Funeral Home Service will be held Friday at ll:45am at the Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield with burial to follow at the Mass Veterans Cemetery in Agawam.
