It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Ronald Thompson (Ronnie) who departed this life on August 16th. Ronnie was known for his generosity, compassion, work ethic, humor, and unwavering focus on family. Born on 12/11/38 in Turners Falls, MA to Alfred Thompson and Mary Thompson (nee St. Germain), Ronnie spent most of his adult life in West Springfield with his wife of nearly 70 years, Cliffie Mae Thompson (nee Felton). There, they raised their family and made life-long friends in their close-knit neighborhood. Ronnie was known by all as an extremely hard worker. He learned the importance of hard work when he was young by working closely with his father in several family-owned businesses. He worked as a truck driver for over 40 years, spending most of that time with St. Johnsbury Trucking Company. He was recognized as their Driver of the Year for his dedication, commitment and work ethic. Ronnie excelled as an athlete playing varsity football, baseball, and basketball as a freshman at Turners Falls High School. He also enjoyed traveling with family, making trips to Europe, Bermuda, California, Mexico, and the Pacific Northwest. He was passionate about working in his yard - taking great pride in the appearance of his home. Ronnie loved sports and music of all kinds and was a voracious reader. He had a soft spot for all animals and never met a dog or cat he didn’t like. Ronnie is survived by his wife, Cliffie Thompson, his daughter Paula Thompson Beckwith and her Husband Richard, his daughter Rhonda Thompson Beckwith, and his son Ronald Neil Thompson and wife Lauren. He will be dearly missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends.
