Obituary
Sheila A. (McIntyre) Coderre, 86, passed away peacefully Monday April 19, 2021. Born in Faulmore, County Mayo, Ireland on May 21, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah (Keane) McIntyre. She attended school in County Mayo. She came to Holyoke in 1957 and soon met the love of her life, Donald Coderre in 1961. Sheila and Donald settled in West Springfield in 1970 where she was a dedicated homemaker raising her children. Her family, her home, her friends were always the most important things throughout her life. Sheila enjoyed listening to Irish music, gardening, and cooking. She was thoughtful, kind, and a genuine soul. She enjoyed family vacations to Hampton Beach and Cape Cod. Sheila was a communicant of St. Thomas Church. She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald in 1994 and her infant son Donald in 1964. She was the loving mother of Robert Coderre and his wife Mitzi and Sheila Garvey and her husband Sean all of West Springfield. Sheila enjoyed a special relationship with each of her grandchildren; Ryan and Katelynn Coderre and Daniel and Michael Garvey. She was the devoted sister of Kathleen Kearney of West Springfield, Sarah Candon of Agawam, and Nuala O’Flynn and Ann Clarke both of England, and caring sister-in-law of Ann McIntyre of Springfield. She leaves many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by her siblings; Patrick, Martin, and Mary. Calling hours will be Thursday from 8:30 – 9:30 am at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will be at Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley. In lieu of flowers donations in Sheila’s name may be made to the John Boyle O’Reilly Scholarship Fund, 33 Progress Ave., Springfield, MA 01104 or to the St. Thomas School Development Fund, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.
