Sophie M. (Baczek) Szydlowski, 102, passed away March 1, 2021. Born in Pittsfield, April 12, 1918, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Caroline (Kruczkowski) Baczek. She was raised and schooled in Lenox, MA and graduated from Lenox High School in the Class of 1936. Sophie worked for General Electric in Pittsfield, F.W. Sickles in Chicopee and Electric Game Co. in West Springfield. Sophie and her husband Chester S. Szydlowski were married on June 14, 1947 at St. Anne’s Church in Lenox, MA. He predeceased her in 1998. She was also predeceased by her brothers Walter, Charles, Frank and Edward Baczek and her sisters Anna McIntyre, Bernice Fuore and Agnes Baczek. She leaves a daughter, Cynthia and her husband Meyer Franklin of Westford, MA, grandsons, Jeremy Franklin and his wife Jeannette of Wakefield, MA, Daniel Franklin and his wife Kristen of East Longmeadow, MA and four great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME in West Springfield on Friday March 5 from 11:30-12:30 followed by a Mass at 1:15 at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophie’s memory may be made to One Community Fund, 199 Chelmsford Street, Chelmsford, MA 01824.
