Obituary
In West Springfield, Sophie (Diamantis) Mistos passed on August 31, 2020. Sophie was born July 18, 1926 in Albany, New York residing there until her family relocated to Springfield. She attended Springfield Public Schools graduating as a member of their National Honor Society in 1944 from Springfield Technical High School. She was fluent in the English and Greek languages. In 1947 she married Arthur “Tommy” Mistos and worked at Mass Mutual in Springfield and later at St. Johnsbury Trucking Company and then the Agway Company both located in West Springfield. Sophie was a devout member and participant of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. George throughout her life. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Arthur Mistos in 1994, her parents James (1986) and Anna (1995) (Stathis) Diamantis. She is survived by her three daughters, Christine, Diane, and Elizabeth along with a brother Lloyd Diamantis of Queensbury, New York, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Edward and Celia Fitzgerald of Springfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins here in America and in Europe. In her personal life, Sophie was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing for her family and friends. She was an avid reader and movie fan. Much like her father Sophie loved gardening and her beautiful roses continue to be the envy of her neighborhood. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home.
